DHA Architecture is pleased to have secured unanimous Reserved Matters approval for a 233-home residential development in Saffron Walden on behalf of Bellway Homes.
The scheme received positive feedback from Members regarding the quality of the design, with approval granted following minimal debate at Planning Committee.
The development presented a number of technical challenges, including aviation fuel, gas, sewer and high-voltage easements crossing the site, flood risk considerations, neighbouring land-use constraints and the requirement to incorporate a future-proofed spine road to serve a neighbouring allocation. The site's significant topography added a further layer of complexity to the design process.
Despite these challenges, the scheme successfully delivers a landscape-led approach, with character areas shaped around a series of high-quality green spaces that form the foundation of the development. The design prioritises landscape setting and placemaking, creating a strong and coherent identity across the site.
DHA Architecture was delighted to work alongside Bellway Homes, Savills, Aspect Landscape Planning and Ardent Consulting Engineers to achieve this positive outcome.
We look forward to seeing the development progress to the next stage.
